PHLPost unveiled historic 150th year anniversary of Tarlac province
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has launched new commemorative stamps featuring the 150th founding anniversary of the Province of Tarlac.
The commemorative stamps illustrate the rich historic and cultural heritage of the province, among them the famous Capas Death March monument, Monasterio de Tarlac, the Old Provincial Capitol building, and the Canarem lake. All these designs were collaborated on by artists Paolo Beltran from the provincial government of Tarlac and Eunice Beatrix U. Dabu of PHLPost.
Postmaster General Luis Carlos, Governor Susan Yap, Northwest Luzon Postal Area Director Merma Lea Abalos and Vice-Governor Carlito S. David unveiled the commemorative stamps held at the historic Tarlac City Capitol.
Tarlac’s place in Philippine history is cemented by its many contributions to Philippine independence and nationhood during the Philippine Revolution and the Second World War.
On May 28, 1873, Tarlac was inaugurated as a province from towns belonging formerly to Pangasinan and Pampanga. Located in the heart of Luzon, the word “Tarlac” is said to be derived from a native sugar cane according to a Spanish-Tagalog dictionary by Pedro Serrano Laktaw in the late 1800s.
“The theme of the Province’s 150th founding Anniversary: “maningning ang magiting” relates to our iconic Postman Statue infront of the historic building that has not been destroyed by fire. That stands as our beacon of hope, with the overwhelming outpouring of support and prayers of people, the local government and other government agencies, we will rise again”, Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos said.
Also known as the “Cradle of Races”, Tarlac continues to be a home for a flourishing arts and culture community as well as citizenry geared towards sustainable inclusive growth.
The beauty, uniqueness and special significance of commemorative stamps, continue to be a source of fascination and of great value to collectors.
The Post Office has printed 60,000 copies sold at P16 each of the four different design of the stamps.
