PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost commemorates 250th founding anniversary of the postal system


The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) commemorates the historic 250th founding anniversary of the postal system in the country.

Established in the City of Manila in 1767, the postal service was organized under a new postal district of Spain encompassing Manila and the entire Philippine archipelago.

Overseas mail during that time was conveyed to Europe by Spanish ships via Mexico. Manila became known as a leading center of postal services within Asia.

City of Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna was invited in the affair in behalf of the City, which is the seat of other historical monuments and landmarks. Other invited guests from other agencies of the government also joined in the celebration.

The anniversary activities begun with a Motorcade in Manila, a thanksgiving Mass at the lobby of Manila Central Post Office at 4:00 p.m., followed by a commemorative program highlighting the 250 years of the postal service at 6:00 p.m.

PHLPost officially unveiled the commemorative stamps featuring its 250th founding anniversary that dates back in the year 1767. Famous during that era was the horse driven “badageros”, which was equivalent to the modern day postman.

New and exciting 2018 Postage Stamps was presented by PHLPost to be released the whole of next year. Beautiful places, colonial churches, presidential cars and even Philippine cuisines will be featured for the upcoming stamps.

A recognition ceremony was given for ASEAN Philatelic Exhibitors who contributed in the success of the ASEANPex exhibit held in Manila which was attended by different countries in the Region.

This occasion honored PHLPost clients and customers who have been patronizing the services of the post office, believing that it is still relevant to the needs of the public.

PHLPost also recognized the men and women of the Philippine Postal Service who are at the frontline in achieving an honest and efficient service to the public.

The Finalist of this year’s Gawad Lingkod Koreo was presented and other employees who have reach their 25th year of dedicated service to the Philippine Postal Corporation.
