75th Charter Day of Ormoc City

Ormoc traces its cityhood to Republic Act No. 179 which in 1947 made it the first city of the Eastern Visayas region and the fifteenth city in the Philippines overall. It is the first non-provincial capital city of the Philippines. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 8410, October 20 of every year is celebrated in the city as a special nonworking public holiday, “Adlaw sa Ormoc” starting in 1997.

Ormoc is the pioneer city of Leyte, with a total of 110 barangays, and it is a picture of steady progress and stability. Due to the influx of investors, it was adjudged as the Most Business-Friendly City in the Visayas by the Prestigious Philippine Chamber of Commerce in 2005. Ormoc has been hailed as the Greenest City in Region VIII and is one of the Cleanest and Greenest cities in the country. This prestigious award is a leading tribute, which helps visualize Ormoc as a “beauty by the bay”: a wonderful place to visit whether for business or for pleasure.
