2019 50 Years of Rural Electrification – National Electrification Administration (NEA) – First Day Cover Envelope

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) was formally founded via Republic Act (R.A.) 6038 on August 4, 1969, but the history of the nation’s electrification began with the enactment of R.A. 2717, which brought the “Electrification Administration” into being. Its motivation was to carry out the national policy of providing inexpensive and reliable electrification to advance agricultural and industrial fields in the Philippines. It was officially designated a “government-owned and controlled corporation” (GOCC) under Presidential Decree (P.D.) 269. In just three years hence, the Philippine Rural Electrification program was made a model for other developing nations in the world. 2019 marks the 50th year that NEA has been responsible for the electrification of the Philippines’ rural areas.
