After 10 years, the Basay Post Office has reopened its doors to provide its townspeople with accessible, reliable, and essential postal services right in their hometown. With this development, Basay is no longer the only municipality in Negros Oriental without a post office, marking the province’s achievement of 100% postal access.

“This is a huge milestone for the town,” said Donabel Asuncion, Acting Area Director for Western Visayas. “The townspeople will no longer have to endure a 40-kilometer journey to Bayawan, which is the nearest town, just to have access to basic postal services.”

Aside from accessibility and better connectivity, the reopening of the Post Office signals new opportunities for the entire town of Basay.

“Local entrepreneurs can now send and receive their goods more efficiently,” said Acting Postmaster General and CEO Maximo C. Sta. Maria III. “The town can also proudly promote its local products and identity, helping drive economic activity and strengthen Basay’s presence in the province.”

For now, the Basay Post Office is temporarily housed at a designated space provided by the local government. Basay Mayor Jonny Wagas, however, assures the public that with the upcoming turnover of the new Municipal Building, a permanent and dedicated space awaits the post office.

PHLPost remains committed to establishing post offices in every town in the Philippines, ensuring that every Filipino, regardless of location, has access to reliable postal services that connect communities to the rest of the country and the world.
